This Sunday, I am worshiping at Azusa Pacific University, attending a service to commission Sean and his fellow freshmen. This is that time of year when so many of our young people go off to new adventures or return to their universities or – like Sara – begin their post-graduation careers.

But they are not the only ones moving from one stage of life to another. We are all constantly moving forward, changing and growing, and striving for the next milestone – a first job, a new job, a new relationship, a new house, retirement. These milestones bring blessings and opportunities, but they can also bring apprehension and even fear. Is this the right time? Is this the right move? Will I be happier? Will I succeed?

How fortunate we are, then, to make each and every one of these transitions in the company of the Lord. When we walk with Him, no matter how short or long the journey, we can be confident that we are headed in the right direction. There will be bends in the road and potholes, but He will pick us up and set us on our feet again. We may drift off the path, but He will correct our course. We may be forced to grow and change, to deepen our faith and renew our commitment, but that’s why He set us on this journey in the first place; thus, we become the people He needs us to be.

Set aside fear and welcome the challenges and rewards of a life lived in faith. Whatever transitions may be looming for you or those you love, remember that you do not walk alone. God walks with you, rejoicing that you strive to follow His will for your life. The prayers of your brothers and sisters in Christ go with you, offering you strength and joy. Take your next steps boldly, in His Holy Name.

“Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:18-19
