Episode 1 Recap
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
Well, not quite as long ago as that other story. And not in that galaxy, in a different one that’s not quite as far away... Hang on... Let me start over…
A while ago in a galaxy that is not near ours...
It is a time of civil war. The Empire is polarized. Those who fight to protect hope and light are outnumbered, outmanned, but they continue to fight those who stand with the Dark Side. Can they prevail? Can they beat back their would-be conquerors? Will the Force be with them?
Han Solo is lost. He won’t admit he is lost but maybe he’ll go as far as to say that he’s unable to give reliable coordinates. He is reunited with Leia and Luke although none of them are sure how they got where they are.
They begin to wonder if they have entered a trap when Obi Wan joins them and reassures the group that this is not a trap. Han, Luke and Leia are unsure of Obi Wan at first as Obi Wan is now a woman. Obi Wan assures them that although the appearance is different she is the same Obi Wan that they know.
Obi Wan explains that there is a great disturbance in the force. The Dark Side is once again on the move so Obi Wan is rallying the Jedi and their friends to defend the Chosen One.
Han, Luke and Leia all assume that Luke is the Chosen One but Obi Wan states that Luke is not the Chosen One. Leia assumes that this means all of her contributions to the rebellion and resistance will finally be recognized, but alas, she is not the Chosen One either.
Darth Vader arrives on the scene. He has been transported to this new location as well. He asks to be able to speak with Luke. Vader asks Luke to rule… that is… work together. Luke wonders if things may turn out differently this time. Han and Leia remind Luke that Vader once cut off Luke’s hand and that they all support Luke in refusing Vader’s offer.
After Luke turns down Vader's offer, Vader offers Luke the chance to lead the Empire’s troops. Luke sees no point in leading troops that will attack his friends and refuses a second time. Vader promises that Luke will be treated like an emperor. Han and Leia remind Luke what happened to the last emperor of the Empire. Luke refuses a third time. Angry, Vader states that he will win the war and storms off.
Luke feels good that he was able to resist everything that Vader offered with the help of his friends. Han, Luke and Leia again wonders who the Chosen One is when a disembodied voice states “another one there is. Patient you must be.”
We’ll have to wait until next week to find out if that is who Han thinks it is. And to find out who Obi Wan thinks is the Chosen One. And to discover if there’s even more to the plan. So, join us again next Wednesday -- and until then...
