Westchester Lutheran School students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of after school programs.  These activities are designed to help our students with their educational learning.  All programs are held on campus for the convenience of our students and their families.   Students are picked up by the program instructor at the school yard or in the classroom, and are dropped at extended-day care when the activity is over. Changes to program schedules due to half days, holidays, etc. will be arranged directly by the program instructor.

Cooking Mediterranean Favorites
Kindergarten- 5th Grade
3:30 pm – 4:20 pm

Kids will learn to cook Mediterranean classics in this fun, hands-on class.  Mediterranean food is considered one of he healthiest cuisines.  It focus on lean proteins, healthy fats (olive oil) and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables without sacrificing flavor.  Kid will expand their palates, try new foods and learn a variety of fast, easy recipes they can make at home.

Let’s Engineering Flying Machines – Design, create, test, and refine a variety of flying machines in Aerospace Engineering; Up Up, and Away! Students will construct a shock absorbing system designed to protect two astronauts in a lunar vehicle, air-powered rockets, a blimp model that actually takes flight and more.   At the end of the program, students will launch their bottle rockets up to 100 feet in the air.  Students will take home their week’s creation.

Harnessing Heat- Learn the properties of heat.  Witness an underwater volcano, experiment with thermometers and have a “sand Blast!”

Light, Color Action – Uncover the hidden components of white light and build your own Technicolor Blender. Draw an ultraviolet picture!

Magnetic Magic- Investigate the invisible power of magnets. Test for electromagnetic fields and take home a floating magnet!

Mission Nutrition- Cultivate a healthy attitude towards nutrition and fitness.  Take home a Mad Science step-o-Meter!

Optical Illusions- Build your own periscope while learning about optics, reflection and vision.  Investigate amazing optical illusions!

Sonic Sounds- Discover sound waves and create your own sound effects.  Create a sound-effect symphony using ordinary objects and take home a Sonic Horn

Tantalizing Taste- Experiment with taste sensations. Put your taste buds and sense of smell to the test.

Watts Up- Learn about electricity, its properties, and its role in natural phenomena in this shocking class.

Music Fundamentals for Beginners to Advanced

Ed Marz and Leeza Miller will once again be teaching music lesson to our students.   Lessons will be on campus and are available to students froms 1st Grade to 8th Grade.  The Music program runs through the year and students can sing up September through June.

Classes meets once a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays for Piano and Tuesdays and Thursdays for all other instruments.  To register please complete the registration form and return it to the office of the one of the music instructors.  Registration Form
 

Leeza Miller, instructor:   Piano & Voice
Leeza began singing and playing music when she was 10 years as a recording artist for Motown Records.   She went on to sing with Sergio Mendes and recorded the hit “Never Gonna Let You Go.”  She has been teaching music to children for 10 years.  Don’t miss the opportunity to have your children learn from Leeza.  To read more

In martial arts, your child will learn physical training, discipline and mental training.  Martial arts instructions provide numerous benefits in terms of physical conditioning and effective art of self-defense.  The nature of this training involves physical contact with other individuals.

Young children learn differently than older children do. Each age group has certain characteristics that make their learning needs unique. That’s why at LIMA TKD, we structure our children’s classes to target those areas where each age group needs the most specialized attention. 10 weeks Session beginning September 19th – November 21st – This class is appropriate for girls and boys of any age, level of fitness, and athletic ability.  Yoga mats will be provided to all students.

Students will explore fun and challenging posses, learn techniques to relax, connect with their breath, and develop mindfulness.  Benefits of yoga; Build concentration and body awareness, promote self-esteem, self-control, respect of others, manage stress through breathing, meditation and healthy movement.
