 UP, UP AND AWAY TO JR. K AND K!

The butterfly and Fish groups of Preschool took a "walk down the hill"  with their teacher to visit the Kindergarten Classrooms  There they enjoyed a story with Mrs. White and Mrs. Deason, posed for a picture, made a craft (frame for their picture), had a snack and visited the Kinder-Garden where they released ladybugs.  Thanks to Krista Maire, Lisa O'Leary and Kay Osburn for planning this fun experience for our preschool classes and to Mrs. Vaughan for being our photographer!   Many of the Preschoolers will be attending Jr. K or K at WLS in the fall.
 

                  REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR JR. KINDERGARTEN AND KINDERGARTEN
                                                  FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 2010-2011                           

All parents interested in enrolling children in Westchester Lutheran Junior Kindergarten or Kindergarten for the 2010-2011 school year are invited to our Junior Kindergarten/Kindergarten Parent Orientation meeting which will be held on  Tuesday, Jan 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the Church.

Children must be 5 years old by September 1st to be eligible for Kindergarten at Westchester Lutheran and screen as developmentally ready for Kindergarten.  Those children who screen as developmentally young or who will be 5 years  old by December 1st are eligible for the Junior Kindergarten program.  The Junior Kindergarten is a bridge between preschool age and Kindergarten and gives these children another year for developmental growth.

                                                   Screening appointments

Screening for Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten will be done again this year by representatives from Chancy and Bruce Educational Resources.  The screening will be done at the Pre-school during the regular morning school hours (9:00 -12:00).  Screening appointments will be scheduled during the week of February 2nd -5th.

Westchester Lutheran Preschool students are given the first opportunity to schedule appointments.  Note the area to be completed by parents regarding "child behavior". Your child's pre-school teacher will complete the teacher portion.  Return the form and check for $75.00 made payable to Westchester Lutheran School by Friday, Jan. 15th.
You may give the form and check to the Preschool staff, bring it to the orientation on the 12th, drop it off or mail to the Elementary Campus office.  You will receive a notice giving the day of your child's screening.  A Parent Workshop conducted by Chancy and Bruce will be held on Thursday, Feb. 18th at 7:00 p.m. at which time results of the screenings will be given.  Registration forms will be available this evening and registration fees accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Preschool provides a program of activities, care, and supervision designed to meet the development needs of  average 3 to 5 year old children.

Westchester Lutheran Preschool is a developmentally readiness school with a weekly curriculum. Children develop through thought and language,  as well as motor and social skills.

 The children learn letters, numbers, color sorting, matching, and shape recognition.   They are taught how to follow directions and take turns in simple games. We  encourage  the children to share and problem solve by using their words. They attend chapel and sing Christian songs, Bible stories are read to them, and patriotism is introduced.
